Tamiya Toyota Supra model car driving experience and finished car pictures.
Finally what it's all about, driving the car. This model car as previously mentioned comes with a stock 540 motor and an electronic forward and reverse speed controller. Initial driving of the model used these standard kit items and a 1700mah nicad pack.
Off to a deserted piece of tarmac to see what this little model has got. Speed of the car with this setup is reasonable but nothing to get excited about. The handling is crisp and responsive despite using the original friction dampers. Turn in is positive and it drives very solidly in the turns. The car has a lot more stability than all the rear drive model cars I've driven.
The car responds well to the throttle control stick thanks to the electronic speed controller. Fast and tight turns are possible by backing off the power, destabilising the car before turning the car into the turn and then getting back on the power.

So the car is OK with the stock motor but too slow for my tastes, time to fit a bigger motor. I had a new Orion 15t Havoc motor handy so I chose to use this. I've had pleasing results using a similar motor in a Mardave Cobra so expected good things.
The same 19t pinion was used as before and also the kit speed controller (with crossed fingers hoping for it not to burn out under the extra amperage).
This time it's off to an empty car park, a nice big deserted one, big smiley time :-)
Much more pace as would be expected from a 15 turn motor (hee hee, now we are talking). The car accellerates fast and gets up to a pretty good speed in the large car park. Handling is remarkably good for a friction damper car, it holds well at full bore in large sweeping turns and will turn very tightly if slowed down. Driving circuits around the islands off the car park is great fun.

The car can be snapped around from reverse to forward in great style. With some practice the model can be snapped around in a full 360 degree.
Duration with the 1700mah pack, 15t motor and 19t pinion is not bad, I will have to time it but even with my flat out driving and sliding the car around I had well over 5 minutes per run.
There's a huge hop-up range of parts that can be purchased for the TL01 chassis including oil filled dampers, adjustable track rods, better tyres etc. This makes the car ideal for virtually anyone as it can be built to the standard of most peoples driving capabilities and uprated as these improve with practice.
I would recommend this model car to anyone who likes cars and a fun time. It looks that good it would even make a cool display model car.
