TT01 chassis based Nissan 350z model car

Details and pictures of the TT01 chassis Tamiya Nissan 350z model car.

The TT01 differential components.

Assembled diff fitted to rear of chassis.

The two geared differentials fitted to the TT01 chassis use the three bevel gear and star shaft common to other Tamiya cars. The internal diff gears are metal, these run in a plastic housing.
The external plastic bevel also forms part of the diff casing. The rear diff is spun from a propshaft driven bevel gear.

Rear suspension wishbones are mounted between the main chassis moulding and the rear gearbox cover. This assembly is a well thought out piece of engineering and does many jobs with very few parts. Take care to get the wishbones mounted the correct way round (yep I managed to fit the upper ones back to front at first).

Well thought out Tamiya engineering.

The car uses dog bone style halfshafts front and rear, these are plastic items with steel drive pins.

Moving to the front end of the TT01 chassis things are very similar to the rear in construction. The front diff is mounted in a similar manner to the one at the rear. Wishbones on the front are once again sandwiched between the chassis and a gearcase moulding.

TT01 front wishbones are fitted with push in plastic ball joints to allow freedom of movement for the front stub axle assemblies. These balls are split and require firmly pressing home into the wishbones. The front stub axle housings fit into these balls and are secured with self tappers. There is a lot of plastic on plastic moving together with the front suspension, time will tell how well this lot wears but it all works freely once assembled.

Front wishbones for the TT01 chassis.
The one at left has the ball pressed in while the wishbone on the right is without it's ball. Split ball in centre.

TT01 chassis damper units.

Shock absorbers are friction damped units, these are different in design to the ones fitted on the TL01 chassis (I prefer the TL01 style ones personally). Assembly of these units is quick and easy but if it all looks too bouncy you can get proper oil damper upgrades for the TT01.
Steering is accomplished with an assembly of plastic arms and track rods. There is a plastic servo saver to protect this vital piece of equipment. The steering in standard kit form is not adjustable for toe in, though the TT01 chassis does have a good default setup for this parameter. Once again upgraded adjustable steering components are available for the TT01 chassis.
