Rover 600 series 1850cc

The Rover 600 series was introduced in 1993 and was a product of Rover's partnership with Honda. Models available initially were the 2 litre in two versions one developing 115bhp the other 131 bhp, and the 2.3 litre model that pushed out 153 horses.
The Rover 600 shares the same chassis and running gear as the Honda Accord, a car that it was jointly developed with. Indeed the above mentioned engines are Honda units.
The car pictured on this page is a 1850cc Rover 600 series of 1997 vintage. This 16 valve 115 BHP model was first introduced in 1996.

Air conditioning was fitted as standard on all models in the Rover 600 range except the 618i from 1996 onward. All Rover 600 cars have an alarm, immobiliser, remote central locking, electric windows and a driver’s side airbag (except the earliest cars). An electrically powered sunroof has also been available on all models.
Pictured is the 4 door saloon. Boot space is good but it's obviously not as practical as a hatch.
Manual 5 speed gearbox is a slick unit with a sporty short gearstick of fairly short movement. The 5 speed Sierra stick looks like it came out of a truck by comparison.
The gearbox has proven a reliable unit as have the Honda built engines that power most of the range.
Many Rover 600 cars are fitted with an automatic gearbox.

The Rover 600 design is around 10 years old now. Still looks slick and undated. Better than many of new designs that fill the streets today.

This car is fitted with alloy wheels, standard on most of the range, but an optional extra on this 618.

Under the bonnet of the Rover 600. That's the transverse mounted 1850cc Honda engine amongst all the other equipment. Fairly tightly packed in there as with most front wheel drive cars, not as bad as many

Two further models introduced into the Rover 600 range included the 620TI turbocharged car and the Diesel powered version.
The 620TI turbocharged car used a Rover engine instead of a Honda unit and with the help of the turbocharger could pump out 200 BHP.
The turbo diesel powered Rover 600SDi vehicle has nearly the performance of the 2 litre petrol but is noisier and less refined as you might expect from a diesel. It's a reliable engine but if it does go wrong it will cost you dearly to fix it.
Rover finished production of the 600 series in 1998, about the time BMW took over Rover.
